Medical tattooing otherwise known as paramedical procedures, scar camouflage or scar tattooing is a long-term solution for camouflaging scarring. It is a non-surgical solution that can help post-surgery patients and trauma survivors find a renewed confidence.
Scar camouflaging is achieved using the same technique as the artistic tattooing process. However, instead of tattoo ink, medically certified pigment is placed into the scar tissue to match that of your own skin colour. Once this procedure has been done, there is a significant difference in the appearance of scars in individuals with medically-related physical imperfections.
Medical tattooing is a great way to regain your confidence. However, not all scars are suitable for the procedure.
Notably if scars are new or hyper-pigmented (darker in colour) - deep red / purple), they will need time to fully heal which can take 12-18 months, sometimes longer depending on their severity.
Scars need to be fully healed and white in colour in order to camouflage them. Some scars never turn white, and can potentially stay hyper - pigmented long after they have healed. The most suitable scars to treat with medical tattooing (but not limited to) are those that are the result of a clean cut, especially if the scars are the result of surgery.
It's important to understand that scar camouflage is done to help with the appearance of a scar to match your skin tone. If your scar is raised, or sunken, medical tattooing won't reduce the scars shape or texture - ONLY the colour.
Scars on your body and face can leave you feeling imperfect, uncomfortable and lacking confidence. With medical tattooing / scar camouflage, the most apparent benefit is that it is an extremely effective, non-surgical option for reducing the appearance of scars.
It is a procedure that not only helps with self-esteem and confidence, but can enhance your way of life.
As previously mentioned, the process of paramedical tattooing is done the same way as artistic tattooing, the only difference is the pigment.
We understand that not everyone has body tattoos and so this procedure can make people nervous. However, where necessary and when preferred by the client, a topical anaesthetic is used.
Depending on your scar, you will require anything between 1 - 4 sessions. (This is discussed in your free consultation)
You will see a change in the colour of your scar or stretch mark after each session, and a decision to continue can be made after the healing period when the results are more prominent. Each person and case is unique.
Medical tattooing will commonly last for many years, we expect that the colour will last for about 4-6 years, depending on a clients life style.
The cost of a medical tattoo appointment starts from £95
